10 WAYS TO KNOW IF SOMEONE TRULY LOVES YOU

I have had many people asked me that question many times. I want to compile the answers I've been giving to them under this one post. I'm talking about romantic love here. I hope it helps you.

But first, you should take note of this; romantic love is conditional. It maybe true and genuine but must be based on something. It doesn't stand on its own. It isn't unconditional. As a matter of fact, no human love is free from condition. Every human love is conditional.
That's why it is necessary to find out why someone professes to love you so as to maintain that love. Romantic love has to be maintained. The love lasts as long as the "why" behind the love lasted.

The funny thing is ; people love for different funny "whys." viz., eye colour, hairstyle or colour, beauty, body shape, height, skin, cognitive ability or capacity, dress sense, status, qualifications etc., I mean a whole lot of reasons.

Inasmuch as these qualities are not wrong per se, it's advisable to love for inner qualities other than physical ones. Inner qualities outlasts physical ones.
Enough said, how do know if someone truly loves you?

[Note: I'll be using "he" but in a generic sense. This means it applies to both genders. These things are not gender specific or exclusive. Whenever someone loves you, these signs will be evident]

1. He Will Sacrifice For You
The true, basic and fundamental test and prove of love is sacrifice. True love is sacrificial. The depth of sacrifice reveals the depth of love. I mean, when someone truly loves you, he will spend at his own expense! He will sacrifice many things for your sake.

Look at Scripture, "For God SO LOVED the world that HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON..." (John 3:16). God loved(and He still loves) the world so dearly that He sacrificed His One and Only Son for our sake.

Though, God's love is agape(unconditional) but romantic love expresses itself too, through sacrifice.

Sacrifice is the fundamental test and prove of love. Every other tests or proves are supplements.

2. He Will Create Time For You
What you love, you create time for. What you love, you will have time for.
When someone truly loves you, "I don't have time, or I'm busy," is not really an excuse. They will surely create time, probably when going to the toilet, or going for launch, they will just use the opportunity to get across to you.

Though, sometimes people are busy in the office, I understand. But it shouldn't be an excuse. I mean, check the Scriptures and see how God longs to spend time with us but some of us don't have time for Him either because our love for Him have waxed old or we don't love Him at all!

What and who you love, you will create time for, you will spend time with. Not just time but quality and exciting one at that!

3. He Will Care For You
Someone can't say he loves you when he doesn't care about your well being. He doesn't care whether you've eaten, whether you are okay, healthy, safe and sound etc. He doesn't care whether your hairdo is long overdue, your clothes, shoes and bags are worn out. She doesn't care about your future, all she know how to do best is give me this and that, you know demanding for money all the time, where is your love oh sister?

When someone truly loves you, he or she will care, be concerned about your future, physical and spiritual well being, safety, etc.

4. He Will Provide For You
You will be compelled out of love to give when you truly love even when you don't have much. You'll be happy to share the little you have.

Granted, you can give without loving but you can never love without giving!

God loved the Israelites, thua He provided for them. Everyday, He gave them manner, and also meat. The shoe and clothes they left Egypt with never get old for about forty solid years! Even without asking, someone that loves will give, he can't just do without it! He's under compulsion of love!

5. He Will Protect You
One of the signs of love is protection. Someone that truly loves you won't hurt you. Love does not hurt! Love protects.

God protected the children of Israel from their enemies because of His great love for them. All the first born in the land of Egypt both man and animal were killed to make sure the Israelites set free.

Someone says he loves you yet hurts you, that person is lying to you. Love doesn't hurt.

6. He Will Be Jealous Over You
Any love without at least a drop of jealousy in it is not love. It's either a lust or infatuation.

When someone loves you, he'll be jealous over you. He'll try as much as possible to keep you to himself or herself. He'll make sure he is not sharing you with anyone.

Whenever the Israelites began to take their attention away from God to idols, God normally got mad at them. In fact, He says that He's jealous of the Israelites with a great jealousy!

When someone that claims to love you doesn't bother about who and who you gets close to, something is not absolutely right. That's not healthy self esteem, it may be a sign he doesn't love you in the first place.

7. He Will Be Patient With You
The Scripture says love is patient. Someone that loves you will be patient with your weaknesses, shortcomings, naughtiness, sometimes stupidity.

He will be patient as you improve to become a better person. Love is patient.

8. He Will Forgive
Love forgives. It doesn't keep record of the wrong things you have done. The Scripture says love doesn't keep record of wrong doing.

Someone that keeps reminding you the evil you did to him so so so and so year may not have forgiven you and that can be an evidence there's no love.

Although it may be difficult to forget the evil one did to you yet whenever you remember it you won't feel hurt or bad, that's an indication that you have forgiven.

9. He Will Not Be Envious Of You
Someone that claims to love you won't be jealous of your progress nor feel intimidated by it rather he will be happy with you. He'll even support you self!

Someone that's envious or intimidated of your progress is either suffering from low self esteem or he does not love you.

10. He Will Build You Up
The Scripture says love builds up, it doesn't pull down.
Someone that loves you will help you to become a better person. It will not exploit you rather it'll expand you.

He will give you tell things, give you materials, books and things that will make you to become a better version of yourself.

God loves everyone one of us, therefore He sent Jesus to die for us so that we can become born again, brand new persons!

Love does not leave you at the state it met you, no it leaves you better than when it met you.

Let me stop here. These few points is enough know someone that truly loves you. May we all find someone that loves us for true and genuine reasons! Amen.

Thanks for reading.
